The Time Matters Messenger (TMM) is a powerful feature of Time Matters/Front Office/Total Practice Advantage that lets you send intra-office messages, and is used as a notification feature for the addition of records like Events, Notes, Docs and Phone Notes.

So long as you are in the office, the TMM works very well and is integral part of a well-used Time Matters installation. However, when you leave the office you lose the ability to receive the messages as they are internal to Time Matters. You won't know that someone sent you a TMM until the next time you log into Time Matters, often the next day.

msg2you extends the TMM so that you can receive your messages on your cell phone or PDA as an email or an SMS text message. 

Some of the features of msg2you include:

• Receive TM Messages as SMS text messages or email
• Server-based program is centrally administered
• Utilizes the SMTP protocol to send outgoing messages
• Utilizes the Time Matters In/Out List to determine if you should receive your messages remotely
• Runs on Time Matters Enterprise only (Pro may be supported in future versions, depending on demand)

msg2you is priced at $100 per user, per year.

This annual subscription cost entitles the user to all upgrades to the program.

Firms only have to license the number of users who want to use the program. The number of msg2you licenses does not need to match the Time Matters licenses, so a firm that has a 10-user Time Matters license but only two attorneys that leave the office only needs two msg2you licenses.

There are a number of ways to look at the Return on Investment for msg2you, but the best rationale would be the same one that exists for the Blackberry and other "push" technologies - the ability to have real-time access to your internal communications. This means that you will have more timely knowledge of messages being sent to you, and will be able to respond in more quickly to situations that need you attention. This will result in

• Being able to work on issues during otherwise wasted time - while waiting in an airport; from your car, home or hotel with a cell phone call; while waiting outside a courtroom, etc.
• Better responsiveness to your client's needs increases client satisfaction which leads to additional work from that client and others.

At $100 per year, all you need to do is pick up a half-hour of otherwise non-billable time and the license pays for itself.

msg2you is delivered as an executable program, licensed for a certain number of users in your firm. It takes less than a minute to install. Configuration requires that you know:

• Your SQL Server name
• SQL sa user name
• SQL sa user password
• The name of the your Time Matters SQL database (typically something like TimeMatters9), and the "owner" of the database (typically tm9user)

The User Manual will then walk you through the rest of the configuration. The two areas that will require the most work and knowledge will be determining your:

• SMTP server - this is the email server that is used for sending outgoing email
• Email address you need to use for your SMS messaging to your cell phone

• An SMTP email account. Not all accounts will work. For example, the GoDaddy SMTP accounts don't work as the cell companies see it as a spamming SMTP server
