I heard the screen scratched easily ...

My experience at the Verizon store was inconsistent. I walked in and they had all sorts of people to greet me and get me signed in for assistance. They found one staff member who would let me play with his Storm ... the one that was tethered to the wall was good for seeing how some things worked, but I need to see how it felt in my hand, and in my pocket where I carry my phone. But when I decided to purchase it, the guy who helped me didn't really know what he was talking about but was interested in selling me all sorts of stuff I didn't need.

  • He told me that the screen was prone to scratch and sold me a $10 pack of screen covers. In the back of my mind I recalled reading something about that, so it didn't seem unreasonable to me. Later that evening I googled "blackberry storm scratches pocket" and found this video: Blackberry Storm Scratch test ... or Storm v. the knife. Needless to say, I will return the screen covers if I am in the area of the store. I also immediately tore the factory screen cover off, which is probably what people are seeing getting scratched - not the screen itself.

  • He also tried to sell me a holster, clip and some padded cover that would have doubled the Storm's size. He said that I really shouldn't store it in my pocket because it would scratch and would get turned on. When I asked him if it could be locked he said no. I saw the lock icon on the unit I was playing on and asked what that was if it didn't lock. When I pressed the lock, it required a password, something I don't want to do. He told me it had to have a password. At this point my BS meter was redlining, so I blew him off figuring I could get to the truth later. Here it is: you can lock and unlock the Storm with one push of an icon. You don't have to password it. And, as the video above shows, there is no problem with scratching. That means pocket people like me can use the Storm just fine.

I'm not trying to be overly critical, but these were issues that were important to my use of the phone and he got them all wrong for what was the obvious purpose of selling me stuff I didn't need or want.
